Yes, A Vision Board Party

I want to start by saying that I host a vision board party every year, and it WORKS! I have accomplished so much by outlining and sharing my hopes and dreams, and you can do it too!

There is something about saying it aloud and setting the intention that brings big dreams to life.

Now, the word “party” may imply a large gathering, but for your vision board party, you can have as little or as many people as you like.

Why This Works

There are a few excellent reasons why vision boards can be life-changing.

The act of making a decision is one of the most powerful ways to manifest your goals. Firmly deciding what you want for yourself triggers intention in your subconscious.

Your decisions give you direction.

Focus. Your vision board narrows down your thought process and keeps you focused on your goals. If you ever feel lost, or sidetracked, come back to your board and reset your focus.

Your vision board will also keep you motivated. You know what you want, you’ve made your intentions clear, and you’ve created a tangible presentation that will motivate you. Keep taking those small steps into the big picture.

In addition to that, sharing your goals and plans with your vision board party guests instills a sense of accountability. When you know people are watching you and rooting for you, it’s easier to stay inspired and stay focused.

What to Put on Your Vision Board

First and foremost, don’t hold back! Dream big! Add anything that you hope to do, acquire, be, and attract.

No goal is too lofty for a vision board.

When I made my first vision board in my early 20’s, I included a picture of a Black American Express card. You know, the metal one with sky-high spending limits. I can still see exactly where the magazine clipping was pinned on my board.

Well, about seven years later, I received an offer for that Black American Express card in the mail one day. I couldn’t believe my eyes. I called all of my friends and family to ask if they had ever received an offer like this, and they all said no. Even my husband, who made a much higher salary than me at the time, never got an offer. Not then, not now.

By this time, I had achieved so many goals from the plans I laid out, but receiving that Black Card was the first time I truly realized the power of my vision board. I have been a firm believer ever since.

Let’s Do This

Now that you have clear intentions, you should feel more compelled to follow through with your plans.

There are several ways to make your vision boards, so don’t get overwhelmed thinking this is a big undertaking. Let’s start with the most basic version of a vision board.

Bare Minimum Vision Board

To take the super simple (but still effective) approach, all you need is a piece of paper and a pen. Bonus points if you find a piece of colored paper or card stock if you have it. And bonus points if you use a marker, or a pen, with prominent ink.

We are going to write down our goals, hopes, and dreams in a way that implies they are already a reality. For example

  • I am a successful blogger who makes a difference in the lives of millions of women.
  • I provide a comfortable living for my family.
  • I am a kind, loving, thoughtful, and balanced mom.
  • My marriage remains happy, healthy, and exciting.
  • I am an accomplished writer. I am writing my first best-selling novel.
  • I am healthy. I eat healthy. I eat fresh produce.
  • I understand cryptocurrency and have investments in the most promising coins.
  • I stay up to date with the latest advancements in science and technology and have friends with the same interests.
  • I have friends who are smarter and more successful than me who I can look up to and learn from.

AND, just like that, I have made MY most recent vision board….. AND I am going to publish it online for public consumption.

I have butterflies because I know how powerful this can be!

Of course, everyone’s goals are different, but this gives you the right idea.

As you and your party guests work on your lists, discuss your ideas out loud and cheer each other on. Push each other a little farther. Discuss the steps you need to take to see each goal come to fruition. Don’t be shy!

Classic Vision Board

If you’ve ever seen The Secret– or read the book– then you are already familiar with the classic vision board. The old-school cut and paste technique.

This hands-on method is the most fun way to build a board with your vision board party. Ask your guests to bring a pair of scissors (you could also use a knife), a magazine or newspaper, printed images, and a project board.

You will also need a glue stick, or bubblegum, to stick your images to your board… whatever it takes to get the job done!

Pro-tip, grab a poster board from Dollar Tree! And if you’re feeling extra, you could even find some decorative items to add to your board while you’re there.

Gather your group around a table, pass around your magazines and cut out images representing your goals, hopes, and dreams. Then glue the pictures to your board! You can also paste words, write words, and draw pictures on your board.

When all of your vision boards are complete, take turns presenting them to the group!

Refill your wine glasses, indulge in snacks, and cheer each other on! Bonus points- tell your friends and family what small steps you are going to take to bring these dreams to fruition.

Digital Vision Board

Digital Vision Boards

If you prefer a digital approach, you and your guests can still benefit from a vision board party.

Join each other on Zoom and create your boards using PowerPoint, Keynote, Canva, or even a simple word doc.

Find images that represent the life you are looking to curate, and cut and paste them into your document. You can also type in words and phrases to complete your vision.

When your boards are complete, you can present them to each other by taking a photo of your work with your phone and showing it off through the Zoom camera.

You could even email your boards to each other to solidify your intentions even further. Don’t forget to cheer each other on and have fun with the process!

bulletin vision board

The Ultimate Vision Board

If you love this concept and want to embrace it to the fullest, go ahead and invest in a bulletin board. Bulletin boards are the original Pinterest!

Use pins or thumbtacks to post anything that you want to achieve, acquire, or attract into your life. You can find images in magazines, catalogs, and mail flyers. And, of course, you can print them straight from the internet.

This method makes it easy to add and update your vision easily and effectively.

After the Party

Now that your vision board is complete pat yourself on the back. You are ahead of 99% of the population when it comes to formally setting your personal goals for the next year of your life.

Keep your board out where you will see it regularly (closet, vanity, dresser, nightstand) and soak in the vision from time to time. Close your eyes and visualize yourself living the life you designed.

If this sounds cheesy to you, I know. – I get it. But brush off any lingering doubts and allow yourself to keep an open mind and give this a real chance. You’ll be happy you did.

Even if you are skeptical, you will still see results if you have a positive outlook.

And, even if you don’t realize it, your dreams are already in motion.

HAPPY NEW YEAR!

  1. I love making a new vision board each year and am hosting a party for this next month! So fun! I like that you’ve offered different options (ie paper vs digital). One fun thing I did last year was my friends and I saved little quotes or images of what we wished for one another, and then exchanged those so we could use them On our boards, which was fun. I saved cute entertaining scenes for one friend because she was doing some renovations so she could host more.
